We've been having fun in my classroom and making some cute projects and learning as much as we can. We are getting close to report cards so I am busy doing assessments and implementing Daily Five (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, and Work on Writing). The kids are loving getting into Daily Five and I have the computers going in the classroom so 12 students a day get to be on the computer and I have 3 listening centers going so they don't have to listen to the same book every day. I only switch the books once a week and it is usually on a Tuesday since that's the day I am usually able to stay a little later thanks to a friend that picks up the kids and meets me at Grace's tumbling class. This last week in my class we learned about American symbols so we made a circle map about bald eagles and then the kiddos made a flow map and then wrote their bald eagle facts. On Thursday, they made a bald eagle with their foot and hand prints and we also made a circle map of the American Flag and wrote facts on a piece of paper. Finally on Friday we made our American Flags. I got a picture of the kids with their flags (faces covered). They thought it was really funny to take a picture with the flags over their faces. We still have to make the Statue of Liberty this week and also fit in our Valentine unit the first grade team has planned. Not sure how that is going to happen.
In the background hanging on the wall, you can kind of see our bald eagles. My classroom is coming together very slowly. I just don't have enough time to get everything together. I need a full day on a weekend to get in there and really organize and get my bulletin boards and daily five all put together.
I can't believe it is almost Valentine's Day already. I was supposed to do valentine's this weekend but then I got the silly flu and I've been out of commission since Friday night. Thankfully no school on Monday for us so I can rest another day. I'm really miserable and I think I also have a sinus infection but when I went to urgent care the doctor didn't even check me, he just wrote me a prescription for vicodin to take care of the aches. Granted, it may help but I will get sick from it so I didn't even get it filled. I just bought some otc meds and am trying to find relief on my own.
Tell the Kiddos I love the Picture of their flags......Hope you are feeling better....it will all work out....Love Mom
