Still here....Dr. Seuss and Things

Really?!?!?  I thought I had posted more recently.  Maybe I just never actually hit publish so it got deleted.  Not really sure.  Anyway, we only have one more week until spring break so we are working hard to finish everything we need to finish.  We just finished the 2nd trimester and tomorrow (Friday) is the awards assembly and report cards go home.  It had been a long time since I had to do report cards.  I guess I did ok.  The printed them out and gave them to me with no questions and no concerns.

We have been doing a lot of Dr. Seuss the last 2 weeks.  We had costumes made for Things 1 and 2 for the first and second grade teachers to wear.  The kids have done a lot of fun activities and today all of the classes rotated through the first grade and second grade classrooms and made a lot of fun projects based on Dr. Seuss books.  It was such a fun day.  A little crazy....but fun.  My rotation was 1 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  The kids traced their hands and cut them out and made a poster.  After lunch, I had some mommies cook up some green eggs and ham so all the kids could taste it and we made a graph.  We ended the day watching The Lorax.

 We also made treats that were supposed to look like the hat for the cat in the hat.  It didn't turn out just like the ones we saw but cute enough.  We only added sugar to the top of our marshmallow because we were afraid we wouldn't have enough and then we ended up with plenty.  The kids didn't care though.  They thought it was fun!

 A volunteer that came and read to the class for Read Across America celebration.  She happens to be a mommy in our class.  We had a couple other volunteers also.

The Lorax and writing that the kids made on Tuesday.  The wrote about what they could do to help the earth.

On Wednesday we sorted and graphed goldfish.  The kids love making the graphs.  On Friday, we are doing a probability activity with goldfish.

Next week we will be doing St. Patrick's Day activities and writing about leprechauns and then finally spring break!!!  It has actually gone by fast since Christmas break.  We are still working really hard on learning our sight words and reading strategies.  I still have some time to get some of these kids going.  I'm hoping after spring break, we can stay focused and learn those sight words.  My kids are really behind in sight words which is really holding them back in reading.  I'm going to work on some sort of incentive to learn those words.
